4 – 5:30 pm
Larchmont Avenue Church
60 Forest Park Avenue
(opposite Chatsworth School in Larchmont)
Directed by Douglas Kostner

The Westchester Chorale will be singing a selection of psalms in a variety of rhythms and genres — from classical to jazz to gospel, including several pieces by composers from Westchester County.

  • Are you craving peace and comfort? Listen for the exquisite harmonies in C. V. Stanford’s treatment of the 23rd Psalm.
  • Seeking guidance on the road of life? Wait until you hear our own Douglas Kostner’s approach to the 13th Psalm.
  • Want to add a bit of spice to your afternoon? The jazzy clarinet accompaniment to Larchmont composer Steve Cohen’s “L’chu N’ran’nah” (Psalm 95, “Come, let us sing joyfully) is the musical flavor you seek.
  • Does your taste tend toward gospel music? You will be inspired by John Higdon’s spirited and rhythmic rendition of the 8th Psalm.
  • Do you get a kick out of Scott Joplin’s musical style? You don’t want to miss the way John Ness Beck put Psalm 100 to song in “A Joyful Noise.”

And much more during this full hour of elegant harmonies and jazzy tunes brought to you by the Westchester Chorale in this unique musical event, conceived and directed by longtime chorale director Douglas Kostner.

Admission: $30 for adults, $10 for under age 16. Purchase tickets in advance through Eventbrite or at the door.
